Places to live in Jávea (2): El Portichol
One of the best viewpoints in the Mediterranean is that of Portichol in Jávea. An almost magical point from which you can see the entire bay, the island of Portichol and Cap Negre. And in front of the sea; the immense marine horizon that on very clear days gives us the view of Ibiza and Mallorca. Its end, Cap Prim, is a cape that juts out into the Mediterranean. Its narrowness in some sections guarantees a very special sensation, that of being surrounded by the sea, on one side and on the other.
The Portichol area has traditionally been one of the the most requested for the construction of houses in Jávea . Before the arrival of tourism, there were already many country houses. Some of them were later bought and restored. Some reforms that have preserved elements such as the naya and the openings made with rough stone, a typical characteristic of construction in Jávea.
Over the years, villas have been built although it is not a territory with a high density of houses. There are plans under development and free plots to start the construction of chalets. You can also find houses for sale to move into or start a reform. Some of the most prestigious architects of the moment, such as Ramón Esteve, have designed luxury villas.
Living in the Portichol guarantees not only the views from Cap Prim or the viewpoint of the cross but also quick access to Cala de la Barranca, one of the most charming in Jávea. In it you can practice snorkeling to enjoy the seabed. Another cove is El Francés, although it is less well known and to get there we must follow a path going downhill on the way out but a steep climb on the way back.
Portichol is, in short, a world apart from urban centers. In his day he even had a school. Currently in the vicinity is the Xàbia International College. And from any point you are just a few minutes from all kinds of services, mainly on Playa del Arenal.
